Gender Duel
Every Hindi noun is masculine or feminine
💡When you are not sure, trust the ending and tap fast. The point of the duel is to pick up the tricky words by playing, so a quick wrong guess still teaches you.
MASCULINE
•Words ending in -aa are usually masculine: ladka, kamra, raasta, samosa.
•Most English loanwords default to masculine: phone, scooter, computer.
•Famous -ii exceptions that are still masculine: paani, aadmi, ghee.
•Many consonant-ending words: ghar, naam, din, haath, kaam, ped.
FEMININE
•Words ending in -ii are usually feminine: kursi, gaadi, roti, ghadi.
•Sanskrit -aa words flip to feminine: bhasha, seva, katha.
•Common consonant-ending feminines to memorize: kitaab, raat, baat, mez.
•Vehicles and most foods/drinks lean feminine: chai, bus, gaadi.
